SAFEGUARDING AND PROTECTING CHILDREN

Bedford Fencing Club positively promotes their intentions to keep children safe whilst attending the club, bearing in mind the club is run in a building which is used by other members of the public. All appropriate members of the club are CRB checked. There is a full child protection policy which can be downloaded below. BFC has two Welfare Officers, Mandie Trudgill and Russ Leith.

At Bedford Fencing Club we believe that the protection of young people and vulnerable adults, from all forms of abuse, is of paramount importance. Everyone involved at BFC, including friends and families all have a role to play in making fencing as safe as possible for children and vulnerable adults. BFC advises that isolated, one-to-one contact between adults and children is avoided whenever possible.

British Academy of Fencing states that, “All persons with responsibility for dealing with children and vulnerable adults in any fencing context should familiarise themselves with the Sports Coach UK / NSPCC document Protecting Children - a Guide for Sports People (ISBN 0947850 50 3) where the nature of child abuse and advice on detecting the four main forms of abuse -- neglect, physical, sexual and emotional are outlined.”
